The Azerbaijan representative office of ELSA was founded in June 2010. In October 2010, Azerbaijan gained observer status at the 58th ELSA International Council Meeting held in Alanya, Turkey, and Azerbaijan was accepted into the ELSA family by a large majority. 1 year later - in October 2011, at the 60th International Council Meeting of the Association in Palermo, Italy, Azerbaijan was nominated for full membership, and the issue was put to a vote in accordance with ELSA's statutes. According to the voting results, Azerbaijan became a full member of ELSA.
